The UK
government has set out a plan to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. The Net
Zero strategy, published on 19 October, builds on other policy documents such
as the transport decarbonisation Plan, the Smart Systems and Flexibility Plan,
and the heating and buildings strategy, in addition to outlining four key
principles.
1. Cooperate with consumers' choices
2.
Ensure that the biggest polluters pay the highest price for the transition
through fair carbon pricing
3.
Ensure the protection of the most vulnerable through government support
4.
Work with companies to continue to drive significant cost reductions in
low-carbon technologies
Net Zero power
system by 2035. The commitment to decarbonization of the power system focuses
on achieving the recently announced goal of a net zero power system by 2035.
Measures
include accelerating the deployment of low-cost renewable energy for power
generation. For example, the frequency of CfD tenders is reviewed through the
CfD Scheme, which is a measure that the Renewable Energy and Clean Technology
Association has previously called for, in particular the holding of six CfD
tenders per month.
The government has simulated three scenarios that would achieve net zero emissions by 2050 at the same rate of decarbonisation, demonstrating a range of practical ways to achieve net zero emissions using currently known technologies and resources. These include a highly electrified scenario in which the UK's capacity rises to about 690TWh, more than double current levels, while low hydrocarbon capacity expands to 240TWh by 2050.Using solar energy, let more countries achieve the goal of low carbon life, protect our common earth home.
